A Sustainable Way to Shop

A Sustainable Way to Shop

BY MOMO

Over-consumption is at the root of our climate crisis. Everything we buy has an environmental impact, 40% of clothing purchased in some countries is never even used.

Studies show that keeping clothing in use for just 9 months longer can cut its environmental impact by 20-30% compared to buying new. And some of our most-loved pieces are also some of the most resource-intensive: a single pair of jeans takes about a kilogram of cotton to produce and roughly 7,500–10,000 liters of water. That's nearly 10 years of drinking water for one person, for one pair of jeans!

This is exactly why I started Momo's Closet. Every piece here already exists...it's been loved once, and it's ready to be loved again. When you shop resale/secondhand, you're not asking the planet for anything new. You're just keeping something beautiful in circulation a little longer.

The big shifts in the fashion industry need to come from manufacturers and major brands, not any one shopper. But every time we choose pre-loved over new, we make a small ripple toward a different way of doing things.
